New Tecumseth Municipal Offices
Alliston, Ontario
In 2018 Snow Larc was invited to join +VG Architects as the landscape architects for a new municipal administration building in New Tecumseth, The project involved breathing new life into an existing elementary school in the centre of Alliston.
The landscape for the new Municipal Offices tells the story of the distinct communities that make up New Tecumseth; Alliston, Tottenham, Beeton, and the rural areas. This is accomplished by using custom paving, planting, a green roof, and an iconic interactive water feature.
Textured walking paths aknowledge the important role that the railway played in the development of the area. Honeycomb patterns reference the honey industry in Beeton. Planting beds contain tall undulating grasses reminiscent of wheat fields. The accessible water feature with 20 jets reminds us of a turning point in the history of Alliston, symbolic of the 20 fire hydrants installed after Alliston was destroyed by fire in 1891. Finally, the prominent Bee-town plaza forms a map of New Tecumseth.
