Avondale JPS + Child Care
Toronto, Ontario
This project involved creating both shared and distinct outdoor spaces for Toronto District School Board students, and children enrolled at the on site City of Toronto Children’s Services daycare facility. Consultation with multiple stakeholders was undertaken in conjunction with the work of the Project Architect, +VG Architects.
Snow Larc’s role began with concept development and extended through detailed design, approvals, and construction of the landscape elements.
The project incorporates eco-friendly improvements and sustainable design features. This includes the application of low albedo coatings on asphalt to create engaging patterns and games for children. Additionally, the use of permeable paving and indigenous plant species helps to mitigate the environmental footprint of the parking area. The play spaces are enriched with natural materials like logs, stones, mulch, and sand, providing children with a connection to nature.
